Cellar for up to 10 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. Ghiaia Nera is a vibrant, almost translucent ruby red wine, composed of the native Sicilian Nerello Mascalese grape. It opens with refined wild berry aromas, supplemented by hints of toasted nut, pastry, and fresh notes of eucalyptus and violet flowers.
The fruits were harvested from volcanic soils on the slopes of Mount Etna. Tenuta Tascante is a sub-project of Tasca d’Almerita, a family winery with a history longer than the nation of Italy. The original estate was founded in 1830 with Tenuta Regaleali, a 550-hectare stretch of land in the heart of Sicily.
Since then, the family have expanded to include a diverse range of terroirs and estates, including Tenuta Whitaker on the island of Mozia. This Sicilian red strikes a perfect balance between lean and juicy, and is a novel choice for any lovers of summery red wine.
Look for red cherry, blackberry, and plum on the palate, with complex undertones of clove, almond, and tar, from the volcanic Etna soils. The tannins are supple and mouth-filling, providing texture for a wide range of pairing possibilities.
Enjoy Ghiaia Nera alongside pizza, walnut and goat’s cheese, or roast chicken.
